Recently, SMC in collaboration with DXP has successfully carried out the project of site move and load out the M40 Module oil and gas Jacket – a super-sized and super-heavy Jacket with dimensions of 28.5m in length, 13.8m in width, 18.4m in height and weighing up to 1,226 tons. This is one of the important Jackets of the oil and gas project, manufactured at Dong Xuyen port, Vung Tau, and requires a rigorous transportation process and high precision by MWS DNV.

Procedure for site move and load out M40 oil and gas jacket
The project is divided into two implementation phases:
-
Site move Jacket from the fabrication yard to the wharf:
SMC has conducted analysis and calculations to propose using a 48 axles SPMT Scheuerle system and 4 PPUs to move Jacket from the fabrication yard to the wharf. This stage requires the SPMT superintendent and operator to have a lot of experience as well as high skills, connecting the system of 4 trailers into a synchronous system with only 1 operator.
-
Load out the Jacket from the wharf to the vessel:
The next step is to load out the Jacket onto the vessel. This is the most important stage of the load out process. As the SPMT system moves across the link bridge – the connection between the jetty and the vessel – it must overcome a great challenge in maintaining balance between two different planes. Especially when 50% of the SPMT is on the wharf and 50% on the vessel, the hydraulic hook system is activated to maintain the stability of the Jacket.
Absolute precision and safety
The process of site moving and loading out oil and gas jacket requires careful calculation, with each operation performed to the millimeter. The professionalism of the SMC team is not only demonstrated through the operation of the equipment but also through field surveys, detailed planning, and close supervision of each step from trailer alignment, SPMT adjustment to the smallest steps in lifting and lashing the jacket. This helps SMC ensure absolute safety throughout the entire working process, without any incidents, no matter how small.
The success of the project has received high appreciation from the owner, not only in terms of progress but also thanks to the safety and accuracy in each stage. From receiving the jacket at the fabrication yard, moving to the wharf to loading out onto the transport ship. Under the supervision of experts from Europe, SMC not only completed the project on schedule but also ensured superior quality, worthy of the trust of partners in the oil and gas industry.
The successful completion of the M40 site move and load out project not only affirms SMC’s ability to transport and handle oversized and overweight structures, but also demonstrates its superior technical capacity in large oil and gas projects. With professionalism and modern equipment, SMC continues to strengthen its position as a reliable partner in the oversized and overweight transportation industry with large-scale structures.
